In 1975, two local businessmen, Jerry Brentham and Roy Wood, became convinced that, due to a lack of constructive alternatives, too many of the area youth found themselves getting into trouble. Much of the time they were lacking direction; roaming the streets with time on their hands, nowhere to go and nothing to do. All of their prayer, patience and persistence paid off in June of 1982 when the Youth Center opened its doors for the first time, being housed in a former elementary school gymnasium. Community response that first summer far exceeded the foundersÂ’ wildest expectations. At the request of parents, the decision was made to continue the Center activities throughout the entire year. BCYC continues to grow and is dependent on the assistance of the surrounding community.
